Description
The original name of Xidi is Xichuan, which is built initially in the northern Song dynasty. The village is 700 meters in length, and 300 meters in width; there are over 300 residents. So far, 124 local-style dwelling houses of the Ming and Qing dynasties have been well preserved. Most of them are built up of bricks and woods, with three-room or quadrangle pattern. All though they have gone through hundreds of years, they preserve, in a whole, the basic features of Ming and Qing villages. They enjoy the fame of “the most beautiful village in the world” and “the treasure-house of the ancient dwellings construction”.
Most of the buildings and road faces are made up of black marbles, and two streams of cool springs are thrilling through the village. With high walls and deep lanes, and ancient dwelling houses each has its strong point, the tourists felt as if they are staying in the midst of a labyrinth. As the scenic spot is hardly invaded and harassed by wars in the history, the original form of the village has been well conserved. Up to now, the preserved 124 ancient dwelling houses of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and 3 memorial temples have been classified as the key cultural relics under State protection, which is also one of the 27 world heritages in China, becoming indeed the common gems of the humanity.
Best Travel Time
Huangshan City belongs to the moist monsoon climate of north subtropics. The four seasons vary evidently. With warm spring, cool summer, bright autumn and cold winter, the average temperature in a year is 16 degrees more or less. It is suitable for traveling throughout the whole year, especially from April to November.
